Since climbing Stac Polly at the age of 7 on my first Scottish family holiday, hill walking has been my passion. I can remember the sheer excitement of approaching Snowdonia or the Lakes in my early years whether a week end away with my father or on one the “Arduous Training” camps I went on as a member of the school CCF (Combined Cadet Force) which were simply glorified walking holidays. It was on one such camp that I first did the “14 Peaks” walk in Snowdonia as a teenager and I can still remember the sun coming up over Cryb Goch on a cold Easter morning after walking up the railway in the dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My photographic record is very limited from my early years and when I did take photos they were always slides. In due course I’ll do some scanning and add them to this collection including a traverse of the Cuillin Ridge which I did over two days in July 2001 – surely the pre-eminent mountain walk in the UK. Even in July 2001 the rocks were covered in ice when we awoke from our bivvy half way along the ridge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, I’m including more recent adventures in both Scotland and overseas embarked on since 2008 when I went digital. The exception is an expedition up Mt Kenya way back in 1971- a few grainy images that I have included purely for their nostalgic value!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
