I can remember the sheer excitement of approaching Snowdonia or the Lakes in my early years whether a week end away with my father or on one the “Arduous Training” camps I went on as a member of the school CCF (Combined Cadet Force) which were simply glorified walking holidays. It was on one such camp that I first did the “14 Peaks” walk in Snowdonia as a teenager and I can still remember the sun coming up over Cryb Goch on a cold Easter morning after walking up the railway in the dark.

My photographic record is very limited from my early years and when I did take photos they were always slides. In due course I’ll do some scanning and add them to this collection including a traverse of the Cuillin Ridge which I did over two days in July 2001 – surely the pre-eminent mountain walk in the UK. Even in July 2001 the rocks were covered in ice when we awoke from our bivvy half way along the ridge.

In the meantime, I’m including more recent adventures in both Scotland and overseas embarked on since 2008 when I went digital. The exception is an expedition up Mt Kenya way back in 1971- a few grainy images that I have included purely for their nostalgic value!

Mount Everest from the Mera Glacier

Since climbing Stac Polly at the age of 7 on my first Scottish family holiday, hill walking has been my passion.
