My wife and I love to visit these gardens which are just a few miles from Georgeham. My wife works as a volunteer but I just go to wander round and take photographs.
The garden is privately owned and extends over 20 acres with three lakes and is set in a secluded valley 4 miles from Barnstaple. It was created by Dr Jimmy Smart VMH in the late 1950’s. What I like is the informal nature of the garden in contrast to many National Trust or RHS gardens. They are a wonderful haven in which to relax and enjoy an impressive collection of plants, shrubs and trees and experience the views and peaceful atmosphere.
