Exmoor National Park

Less famous and less rugged than it’s larger neighbour Dartmoor, Exmoor nevertheless has its own stunning beauty and character. High moorland is riven by steep sided and wooded valleys which are stunning in the autumn, my favourite time to visit.

Places to visit include Watersmeet above Lynton and Lynmouth, Simonsbath and the River Barle, Tarr Steps, the Doone Valley (setting for the book “Lorna Doone”) to name but a few.

Not to mention the coastal path bounding the northern edge of the Park between Coombe Martin and Minehead passing over Great Hangman, down in to Heddon’s Mouth, past Woody Bay and the Valley of the Rocks, on through Lynton and Lynmouth, then up the long steep hill to Countisbury and Foreland Point jutting in to the Bristol Channel. On then to Porlock and it’s famous hill before reaching Minehead.
