Each year I aim to spend a few days in the mountains, preferably north of the border. This trip back in April 2013 was with my life-long friend Brendan. I flew up to Inverness arriving in a dust storm due to a prolonged drought, high winds and none of the fields being planted up yet.
The contrast with the following days couldn’t have been greater. We headed west to Rattagan Youth Hostel on Loch Duich and it rained almost incessantly! Nevertheless we enjoyed some great days on the hills including one when it actually stopped raining.
The hills were covered in end of season snow which always adds to the sense of scale and challenge.
